Handling of domestic animals

Osaka Metro allows domestic animals (pets) on trains in accordance with the following standards.

  • What are domestic animals?
This refers to ordinary animals (pets) kept in the home, such as small birds, goldfish and tropical fish, small dogs, cats, domestic rabbits, hamsters, and reptiles, that are small enough in size to be fully held on the passenger’s lap.

Requests when taking pets on the train
Place your pet in an appropriate cage/carrier, etc. that has a cover/lid and is suitable for carrying, and cover with a cloth, etc. to prevent fur from scattering and to hide your pet from other passengers.

    Charge: Free

Carriers/cages permitted on board

Items that have a cover/lid and that hide the pet from view (carriers, etc. that have wire netting only in the opening can be taken on the train)
Bird cages, aquariums, etc. that are covered by a cloth, etc. so that the pet is hidden from view
Pet carts/strollers that have a primarily opaque cover and are small enough to be maneuvered on board

Carriers/cages not permitted on board

Do not bring pets on board with head or legs exposed in bags without a cover, such as tote bags.
Do not bring items such as bird cages and aquariums that have a visible interior on board as is.

Note:
Even if your pet is placed in an appropriate cage/carrier, if other passengers are inconvenienced by your pet’s noises or odor when boarding, you will not be allowed to ride the train.

Using seats
Please be considerate about using seats when the train is crowded and place the carrier/cage holding your pet on your lap.

Assistance dogs:
Assistance dogs for the physically impaired (guide dogs for the visually impaired, hearing assistance dogs, service dogs) prescribed in the Act on Assistance Dogs for Physically Disabled Persons can board trains regardless of size.
